Tausch Named to 1A All-State Team
Southwest senior captain Austin Tausch has been named to the N.C. Soccer Coaches Association 1A All-State Team for 2012. Tausch had 27 goals and seven assists for the Stallions on the year and contributed to the second goal in Southwest's win over Lake Norman Charter in the NCHSAA State Championship game on Nov. 17. He is only the sixth Stallion to earn the honor, and he joins seven other area players on the respective All-State lists.
Tausch also earned All-Region honors from the NCSCA for Region 4. Also named to the All-Region team were senior captains Markkel Bannerman and Nick Matics, junior Alex Blake, and sophomore Kevin Hounshell.

Stallions Win First State Championship in Boys' Soccer
The Stallions recorded the first boys' soccer state championship in school history on Saturday, Nov. 17 at Dail Soccer Field on the campus of N.C. State University. Sophomore Paul Bishop scored the game-winner in the 9th minute and the Stallions added an insurance goal in the 67th minute. Senior goalkeeper Nicholas Matics earned the Most Valuable Player Award for the match with a six-save performance that included several athletic stops for the Stallions. Finishing their soccer careers with the title were five seniors: Matics, fellow captains Markkel Bannerman and Austin Tausch, and Jonathan Miltier and Abraham Parra.
